The Lucas Lane club house was buzzing with activity all day as Blueharts celebrated the official opening of the new facilities with 8 home games (four at Blueharts and four at Hitchin Boys’ School). Many familiar faces from over the years turned up to cheer on both first XIs against East London on the new pitch. The visitors had not read the script and dealt out defeats to both home sides. However, down at the Boys’ School the Ladies’ 3s continued their excellent form with an 8-1 win over Hertford and the Ladies’ 5s put six past Stevenage without reply. Hertford were also defeated by the Ladies’ 4s, but got some consolation by beating the Blueharts Ladies’ 2s on their own Hertford turf.
Royston also had a bad day against Blueharts as the Men’s 5s and the Men’s 6s won 2-1 in close games. Letchworth faired better as Blueharts Men’s 3 secured a much-needed victory 6-3 against them, but Letchworth beat the Men’s 7s 2-1.
The Men’s 4s got off to a good start against Broxbourne in front of a home crowd with a nicely worked short corner routine. However, the visitors came back to win 2-1. Finally, the Men’s 2s missed most of the festivities at Lucas Lane with a trip to Chelmsford, where they claimed a point from a 4-4 draw.
