On Saturday 12 October, many of us gathered for the dedication of our new pitch in memory of young Luke Hobson and to raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The large number of people who attended and the total raised are testament to the extremely close knit nature of our club and wider hockey family.
Through donations, raffle tickets and the auction, the total raised is now over £10,000 and still rising, which is just incredible. There are so many people to thank, including everyone who came on the day and donated in recent weeks, but the following people and organisations deserve a special mention for their efforts:
Ian, Chris, Geoff and the Lucas Lane Sports Centre management team for working closely with us to make sure the facility was ready and everything ran smoothly on the day.
All the businesses and individuals who so generously donated auction lots and prizes for the raffle.
Street food sellers, La Crepe Franglaise and Gonleys Woodfired Pizza, who provided food and very kindly made donations from the proceeds.
Our raffle ticket sellers, auction comperes, guest hosts and all those members who helped out on or before the day, as well as Shane France, our photographer for the day.
Letchworth Hockey Club who donated an amazingly generous £500 from their family day, our opposition teams who gifted their match fees for the day, and Mike Stoddard who kindly represented England Hockey. All showing the familiar supportive spirit of the hockey community.
Barbara McGee and the team from East Anglian Air Ambulance who joined us to speak about their vital work and support the day’s fundraising effort.
Martin Sudweeks whose words led us so thoughtfully in remembering Luke.
And last, but most importantly in terms of creating and making the day happen, the organising committee of Debbie Wells, Jo Gibson, Victoria Marsh and Harriet Marsh. These ladies put in an enormous amount of time and effort behind the scenes to plan and ensure every aspect of the day went as well as it could do.
Thank you all for helping to make it a special day in memory of Luke and full of true Blueharts spirit. It really is a privilege to be part of a club that can come together like this to remember one of its own and do so much good for a worthy cause.
President, Blueharts Hockey Club
