Dear Blueharts

Having trialled the outdoor serving of drinks at Lucas Lane, we’re pleased to confirm that we will soon be able to move inside the clubhouse. Great timing as we move into the hockey season and it starts to get colder!

We’ll be operating under revised Covid restrictions and would again ask for your patience and understanding as we all get to grips with the new normal. Here’s some information for when the doors reopen this weekend:

Function Room Hire

Firstly, we’re delighted welcome Hitchin School of Dance to Lucas Lane. They will be using the upstairs function room every midweek afternoon/ evening and on Saturday mornings until noon in school term time. If the Dance School signs are up, please don’t enter the Function Room.


As per existing guidance, if you are experiencing any Covid symptoms you must not come to the club. Should you develop symptoms – firstly, we hope you recover very quickly. But we also need you to tell the right person:


  • If you have played hockey, umpired or just trained you must inform our Blueharts’ Covid Officer, Ian Noble on 07717 606870.

  • Any other users of the pavilion must inform Ian Mills via [email protected] or 01462 434468.

Covid Signage

Please follow signage at all times. If unsure, please ask.

Track and Trace

This is now compulsory – anyone that enters the pavilion must sign in at the table downstairs in the main corridor. From the 24th of Sept we hope to have the national QR code to scan. Please maintain a social distance if there is a queue to sign in.

Sanitise and Distance

Sanitising stations are available at key points around the pavilion and in all toilets. Observe social distancing and if you want to wear a mask, please feel free to do so.

One-Way System

Very simple – up the main staircase, down the external balcony staircase – at all times (even if using the toilets). Bar staff are the ONLY exception to this and have had specific training to do this safely.


The ‘rule of 6’ means we have to strictly manage inside spaces and, just like pubs, everyone must be sat down. The main bar capacity is restricted to a maximum of 36 and the function room to a maximum of 48. If we reach capacity, then the balcony and patio areas are available with table service.

As with any hospitality venue now, please do not move the tables and chairs and minimise the amount of walking around, keeping you and our staff safe.

Bar orders should continue to be made through the Swifty App with table service. Please be patient at busy times!

Post-match teas

Covid restrictions mean that we are currently unable to provide teas, but you are welcome bring your own. No plates or cutlery will be available and please dispose of all rubbish in the bins provided.

We will be allocating space within the Bar and function room after matches for home and visiting teams. This will be managed on a rota to ensure allocated seating post-match.

The function room will be open on Saturdays after the Dance School has finished. Before this time, space will be reserved in the bar area for home teams. We will then have the function room reserved for playing teams throughout the day and up until 7pm.

Again, please be patient as we work out the finer details of this all!


Only downstairs toilets may be used. The upstairs toilets can’t be configured into a one-way system and are being kept for staff only.

Changing Rooms

Changing will provided for away sides on an exceptional basis only and for East Pool Umpires (Mens 1st XI). Come changed and ready for matches and put that shower off until you get home!


A reminder that we can’t allow spectators into the pitch cage at this time, but you may watch matches around the perimeter fencing, whilst socially distanced. Please keep an eye on children in the car park – especially on busy match days. And a final reminder that the club and grounds are dog free except for assistance dogs.
