Blueharts mixed team had the privilege of playing the Tier 2 Mixed Cup Final at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre on Saturday 18th June 2022. This game took place before both Men and Ladies England Teams played Belgium in the Pro League so it was a great chance for our Blueharts players to experience a game at the Olympic Stadium.

Several supporters braved the travel to London and the ticketing system to support the team and despite the 9am start time, they were in fine voice and really gave the team a lift from start to finish.

The opposition were a strong Bath University side comprised of National league and International talent but the Blueharts team started strongly and defended resolutely. Bath opened the scoring but Blueharts soon equalised with a well worked short corner finished off by Ben Bayley.

As the half wore on, the older Blueharts legs tired in the heat and a few mistakes and green cards crept in. Bath capitalised with a very strong short corner drag flick before half time. 1-2 down at half time but Blueharts knew they were still in the game but scoring next would be crucial.

Unfortunately, the chances didn’t come and it was Bath who scored next making it 3-1 and the win pretty much sealed. Blueharts continued to work hard and stayed in the game but it proved to be one game too many and Bath came out eventual winners with a well deserved 5-1 win.

Despite the scoreline, there were some excellent performances, notably from forward Harry Woods, defender Annie Nichols and goalkeeper Alex Ford and this group of players have done very well to get this far. A special mention must also go to the travelling Blueharts supporters who did stop cheering and did the whole club proud. There’s always next year!
